NBC’s Dateline features Macomb Judge

There was recently a segment on a national television news program about drug courts and the purpose they serve in our society. It highlighted a judge that had made a notorious reputation for herself, dedicating her role to providing tough love with the bottom line of trying to help non-violent drug offenders to get the treatment they need to stop using and being a part of drug crimes in the community.

Drug courts serve the purpose of proper evaluation of non-violent drug offenders to get them placed in existing tracks to provide treatment resources tailored to the individual’s needs. While this helps individuals get the help they need it also helps ensure the safety of the community. Prison time alone has proven to be ineffective in breaking the crimes related to drug use and drug related crimes in communities in the United States.
