Alcohol Abuse Remains a Leading Cause of

According to the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), nearly 88,000 people die from alcohol-related causes annually (Psychology Today). This figure has earned a spot as the fourth-leading, preventable cause of death in the United States.

In the past few years, politicians and health experts have focused their attention on the substantial increases in deaths from overdose of prescription medication and heroin. However, the CDC in 2014 released figures revealing the fact that alcohol-related deaths are more prevalent than heroin overdoses. Because alcohol is such an accepted mind-altering substance, it may be difficult for some to admit they have a problem.

One way to find out is to try to limit the amount you’re drinking. If you can go from a bottle of wine a day to glass without being uncomfortable you may not have become a problem drinker but if it makes you uncomfortable, the more likely it is you have an abuse problem. The most important thing to remember is that there is no shame in getting the help you need and you don’t have to fall to an all-time low bottom to need or receive help.

Tranquil Shore’s clinical team is credentialed to help clients identify the role alcohol is playing in their lives. Many come for treatment in some denial about their abuse and soon learn, through guided introspection, that the help they needed was long overdue. Don’t wait another day to start your journey toward a healthier, happier life. Call Tranquil Shores today.
